Apprentice Chartered Surveyor (Commercial Property)

This is an exciting new training position in which you will work towards completion of the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship which includes a BSc (Hons) degree and a professional qualification as a chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).  The apprenticeship will follow the Commercial Property Surveyors pathway. 

Working within the University of York in the Directorate of Estates & Campus Services (DECS) you will join a multi-disciplined team with colleagues drawn from across surveying, engineering, architecture and facilities management.  We offer a fantastic learning environment during which you will receive continual support and the opportunity to learn from different colleagues about all aspects of the property lifecycle and its management.

DECS continually work with property industry partners such as quantity surveyors, project managers, town planners, developers, contractors and property consultants.  In this apprenticeship you will have good opportunities to learn more about the industry from these partners and will build your own professional network of contacts.

The University of York fund the cost of this Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship and will work in conjunction with the relevant training provider to ensure you are fully supported throughout your further development.

Role

Whilst working towards completion of this apprenticeship you will work closely with and be mentored by the University’s Land & Buildings Manager.  You will receive further support from other professional senior colleagues who will help ensure you achieve the maximum benefit from this training position.  In addition you will benefit from receipt of training from the University’s central award winning People and Organisational Development Team.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Three A2 levels at Grade C or higher, or the equivalent or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline.
  • An awareness of property and real estate issues in the context of working in valuation/estates management and surveying.
  • Competency in a range of computer applications and ICT including google products and Microsoft
  • Ability to work and study in an environment where literacy and numeracy skills have been demonstrated
  • Highly organised with a proactive, self-starting approach to work
  • Enthusiastic and resilient with an eagerness to learn
  • Behaviours consistent with our DECS values

This role is available as a full time, fixed term training post (approximately 5 years).

Property Consultant

As a Property Consultant within CIPFA Property Advisory Services you will be part of a highly experienced, well regarded and professional public sector surveying team supporting delivery of products and services across the Training & Standards, Networks & Conferences and the Consultancy pillars.

With a particular focus on Public Sector Asset Valuation (we expect that you will be a Registered Valuer), you will be responsible for delivering our certificated course in Asset Valuation as well as a host of other valuation related consultancy and property training network events around the country.

Comfortable presenting to small and medium audiences in either a classroom or conference style format, you will be working from home and travelling around the country to support local authorities and other public sector organisations.

As well as having a focus on valuation, the role will require you to develop an understanding of a broad range of public sector property and estates related issues, both strategic and operational in nature in order to develop support services for public sector bodies.

This role affords an opportunity to step away from the coal face of operational surveying and take on a more strategic position where you will be seen as the custodian of best practise. You will get to work with other institutes throughout the public and private sector to help develop best practise guides, policy and tools that will benefit public sector property professionals throughout their careers. It is hugely gratifying and important work.

Principal Estates Surveyor

Lancashire County Council is looking for an experienced Estates Surveyor to lead a team of Surveyors to deliver a high quality service.

The successful candidate will be a Chartered Surveyor MRICS/FRICS with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in providing senior technical advice to colleagues and clients. Experience in matters concerned with acquisition, disposal, management and development of land and property is required.

About the role and team

We are looking for an experienced Principal Asset Manager to work in our multi-disciplinary property team at Mole Valley District Council.  Working with a range of property colleagues and other departments within the council, we want to recruit a qualified surveyor to provide a broad level of asset management advice and undertake project specific work within our mixed portfolio.

Our team consists of Asset Managers, Project, Building & FM Surveyors who manage the council’s property portfolio, which consists of operational, investment and community land and buildings.  We are a friendly and dynamic team, who work collaboratively together and with other departments.  We have a number of exciting projects we are progressing and are currently updating our property strategy to review the performance of all our assets and identify surplus property for development, disposal or alternative use.

About you

You will be an experienced RICS qualified Asset Management Surveyor, used to proactively managing a mixed portfolio of property and dealing with their own work load whilst managing and guiding a small team of less experienced surveyors.  You should have experience in a variety of property work including, asset management, development and disposals.  If you have experience working local government experience that would be ideal, however if not you should have an understanding of how local government operates.  You will need to be a team player that is prepared to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in.  You will liaise with a variety of people, so having the skills to adjust your personal style accordingly is also important.

Principal Rural Surveyor

Location: Cambridge, moving to Alconbury in 2021

Job specification

An experienced rural surveyor is required to help manage Cambridgeshire County Council’s 33,000 acre rural estate, the largest of its kind in England and Wales, with over 200 rural businesses and close to a £5m rent roll.

The job is interesting and challenging and offers considerable autonomy and responsibility working as part of a team of 5.

The team delivers day to day management alongside a multi-disciplinary commercial team, who together manage the Council’s strategic property assets. The work will include managing revenue and expenditure budgets, rent reviews, letting farms, strategic reviews, sales, environmental projects, capital investment, such as new farm buildings, house extensions and renewable energy and liaising with tenants, elected Members and the public .

The ideal candidates will have a degree level education in a relevant land use discipline and will be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and preferably a Fellow of the Association of Agricultural Valuers. You should have several years of professional experience in the public or private sectors of the property industry, a commercial focus and good knowledge of agricultural law and rural estate management practices.

Starting salary will be in the range £37,693 - £39,631.  The job is based in Cambridge but will be relocating to Alconbury in 2021.
