About
ACES
|
ACES represents the chief estates and property management professionals in local authorities and other public sector organisations throughout the UK.
Membership now represents well over half the local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales with representatives from all council types, rural, district, unitary, metropolitan and county. It is without doubt the leading voice on public sector property matters and it is estimated that ACES members control or have direct influence on around 20% of Britain's property.
The Association's objectives are:-
1. To promote and co-ordinate the application of the principles and practices of property asset management and to develop the effective management of public property in the interests of the community and local government generally.
2. To establish the Association as one of the principal involved in property matters and to devise and make representations to government departments, local authority associations, professional institutions and other bodies as appropriate.
3. To hold meetings for the purpose of considering and discussing problems of procedure and practice; to develop the interests of members; collect, analyse and distribute property related information and for the exchange of knowledge and opinion on matters of professional interest.
4. To encourage an exchange of views between members and other bodies dealing with matters of property, asset management and to improve the public image and understanding of the Association and the members.
ACES has a very active branch structure with nine geographical branches covering the whole of England, Scotland and Wales. There is also a rural practice branch for those members involved in rural property management or the work of county councils.
Although ACES is managed by a central Council, most of the work is carried on in the regular branch meetings held around the country. However, at a national level there are usually two professional conferences each year and an annual meeting.
One of the primary roles of ACES is liaison with central government and this is carried out through a variety of means, both informal and formal such as the CLG/ACES Working Party and Valuation Liaison Group.
ACES also has a full programme of publications of professional interests in the public sector. "The Terrier" is the Association's regular journal and is published quarterly. Each year there are usually two editions of "Asset" containing professional papers compiled from ACES conferences and dealing with the latest issues.
Our message to ACES members is that you are never alone. Someone some where will have dealt with the same or a similar issue. We encourage ACES members not to reinvent the wheel. Indeed we encourage plagiarism by our members!
ACES is like a big family and we expect members to use it as such by attending local branch meetings and conferences and getting involved wherever they can.
The role of the ACES member continues to change as we strive to deliver an every increasing workload to support central government's public services "Modernisation and Change" agenda, best practice policies, corporate asset management plans and thus achieve "continuous improvement".
The property professional has to continually find innovative ways of working. ACES has risen and will continue to rise to this challenge by broadening its remit. In particular it recognises the developing strategic role of its members and the opportunity this presents to contribute to and influence the public sector agenda at both national and local levels.
